On Saturday, April 26, approximately 200 foster children, from toddlers to teens, will frolic at Helix Charter High School in a "Fun Day for Foster Kids" hosted by the La Mesa Sunrise Rotary Club from 10 am to 2 pm. Together with their foster parents, the kids will enjoy face-painting, rock wall climbing, a bounce house, karaoke, numerous games, and a delicious barbecue lunch.
The school, located at 7323 University Avenue, will provide the facilities while La Mesa Sunrise Rotary and the San Diego County Department of Social Services will provide staff and volunteers for the event.
“We are proud to work together to aid and improve our communities and the lives of our neighbors,” said Betty Howland, club president. "This project is one of our members' favorites because it responds to a local need to support foster families and the children in their care."
The day of fun for kids is one of many events throughout San Diego and Imperial counties planned for "Rotarians at Work" day on April 26 by the 61 clubs of Rotary District 5340. Many of the 3,700 Rotary members in the district will work to exemplify the Rotary motto “Service Above Self” that day, together with Rotarians from clubs in Baja California and San Diegans participating in Group Study Exchange programs in East and West Africa.
Rotary is an organization of business and professional leaders united worldwide, who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world.
