About our club

The La Mesa Sunrise Rotary Club is made up of local professionals and business leaders dedicated to serving their community. The club is twenty years old, and meets at the La Mesa Community Center each Friday morning at 7:15 AM.

The club is part of Rotary International, the premier service organization in the world. Past its first 100 years of community service, Rotary has over 1,200,000 members in more countries than the United Nations! Rotary recently celebrated its 100th Anniversary in 2005. We contemplate the completion of our most ambitious project to date: the eradication of Polio from the earth. To date, we have inoculated over one billion children around the world against this terrible disease, and seven other childhood diseases as well.

Locally, we have supported the Challenge Center for spinal cord injuries, organized family fun days for East County foster kids, painted the La Mesa Library, supported local literacy projects, worked with our adopted school, Helix High to promote their programs, and helped build a new children’s park at the Community Center.

Our club’s international projects include providing machines the make nutritious soy milk for hungry kids in Ecuador, helping clean water projects in Latin America and Africa; computer labs at schools in India and Africa; medical clinics in Mexico; establishing micro-credit banks lending to the poorest women of the world throughout Mexico and South America. We have also sent 27 wheelchairs to handicapped persons in Malawi, Africa. Annually we raise over $25,000 for the 1,000 Smiles clinic in Ensenada, Baja California, which has restored the smiles of hundreds of poor children with cleft palates and other deformities.

We are committed to helping each of our Rotarians realize their vision of community service, either at home or abroad. Every project we do is the dream of one of our Rotarians. And, we should confess, we have a lot of fun while we do it. Come join us, and find your vision.
